For my project, I will be producing content in various forms, including a magazine feature, an online article as well as video and audio packages. It is important that the same content isn't regurgitated throughout. So upon reflection, I have clearly set out each angle for the project.
Magazine Feature
For my magazine feature, I will be writing about how the rise of artificial wave pools has come about and whether or not they're the future of the sport.
I am hoping to interview various people for this piece. I would like to speak to someone directly involved with a wave pool company, going straight to the source to find out their motivations behind starting the company, the impact they hope to have on surfing and what future success looks like for them.
I also hope to interview a high level professional surf coach to assess the impacts wave pools have on their job/life. I also want to gain a professional perspective from an environmentalist in order to assess the environmental impacts of wave pools.
Online article
For my online piece, I'm solely focusing on the environmental impacts that wave pools are having. Surfing is often closely linked with the environment and many surfers are deemed environmentally conscious, but as surfing turns mechanical, it is important to assess how this effects our natural surroundings. For the piece I hope to speak to a professional, to gain an in-depth insight into the issues faced with the building and running of an artificial surf park.
Video package
For my video package, I will case study a particular wave pool company and using raw footage to show viewers what wave pools look like and how they work.
I am yet to decide on what I will produce for my audio package, but I am thinking of something along the lines of how the production of wave pools impacts local communities. But hopefully as the project goes on, I will develop this idea further.
